Education and Reality

Tonight well, I'll be studying my two major subjects Software Metrics and Concepts of Operating System. We will be having our Preliminary exam for Metrics tomorrow and a quiz of Chapter 4 for OS.

I must be motivated for tonight. LOLz. I really need to get this especially Metrics since tomorrow would be the first of the three major exams. Maybe I can't visit my blogger friends for tonight but don't worry, I'll still turn on my computer and refresh my page so I would still be able to get your messages or should I say, IMPORTANT messages straight from my Chatbox (^_^).

This is a life of a student! I can't do anything but to comply, comply and comply with all the demands of the big arena of learning. Because of that when I get lazy to study my lessons, I often think of quitting school! But as I am saying that, a lightning of reality would always hit and make me realize that education will be my one and only treasure I can have that will never be stolen! So I should stick to that reality so I'll have the reason to aim higher and develop more my capabilities to be more or have a greater chance to be successful in life.

And so I must start now! I'll be getting my notes now and seriously sit in my bed and inject that knowledge, concepts and ideas into this challenged brain (^_^).

Reminder to my subscribers and readers:

The Props and Drops in SocialSpark

I was really shocked when I saw my number of PROPS after I've visited my account in SocialSpark dropped to NEGATIVE TWO! I did really wondered how that happened and so I browsed other blogs and users for me to see if I was not alone who had lost PROPS! Surprisingly, I saw one of my buddies' profile. I then immediately looked at her number of PROPS and wohhoo... it's NEGATIVE 3! (more worst than mine). I browse over the IZEA Board hoping to find answers for my questions regarding the props thing. IZEA board didn't fail me. I saw ALL the answers there! (^_^).

For some who are still confused why their props went back to ZERO, here's the summary of what I've read in IZEA Board (Copy and pasted some of them to be clear enough!)
  1. One of the biggest abuses SS have seen relates to comment spam and props. Especially bloggers pouncing new users and leaving comments such as "prop for u" and "luv your blog. I gave you a prop" in hopes of gaining a reciprocal prop, whether or not it is actually deserved.
  2. The new comment system will not allow you to leave comments regarding props (along with other types of comments such as "waiting in line", "requested this opp", etc.) without a warning. SS officially considers these types of comments as spam or non-additive at best.
  3. And so, SS added their new Code of Conduct as a page that's accessible from the main Help menu that includes a basic overview of the SocialSpark community, and gives guidelines on etiquette for propping and commenting.
  4. They've added a filter on comments that recognizes if a comment that's about to be made looks like something most users would consider to be spam.
  5. So all bloggers must not anymore leave these types of comments from now on and if WE abuse the system WE run the risk of being BANNED!
  6. To be fair enough, SS is reseting all props to ZERO!
Clear? So to my fellow bloggers, let's all be careful and NEVER again leave comments that SS considers as spam! :) Let's all make IZEA clean and a better community!

Four Tips for the Broken-Hearted

Certainly, Love is one of the most powerful feeling in this world. With Love we can be like flying into the air and playing in the rainbow with that super amazing feeling. But the sad reality is, when we talk of love, it is most often accompanied with pain and sufferings which make it worst. When we are broken we sometimes do the unusual things to release the anger and pain inside us. And so because of this, I researched some tips regarding how to somehow overcome this awful feeling of broken heart. The tips is from Andrea Syrtash, ONDating. Here we go.

  1. Write down a list of your five 'must-haves' and five 'can't-stands' for your future partner. It can be as silly as wanting to date someone who loves to dance or as serious as wanting to be with somebody of the same faith. If it is important to you, include it in your list.
  2. Make new relationship resolutions.
Try to identify how certain fears influenced your last relationship, and decide whether you're prepared to take steps to face those fears.
Try to identify how certain fears influenced your last relationship, and decide whether you're prepared to take steps to face those fears. For instance, if you feared losing your independence in your last relationship, how will you cope in your next one so that you don't feel you have lost yourself while in a partnership?
  3. Ask yourself, "Why did you stay as long as you did?" Were there moments when you knew it wasn't working? How did you deal with it? What would you do differently if you did it again?
  4. Allow yourself to grieve in a way that's comfortable to you. For some, playing sad love songs and spending many nights inside with Ben and Jerry feels best. For others, jumping into the dating game in a casual way and having fun is a good way to cope.
And so we must also realize that these facts are just tips. The best tips we can get is from our own self, own feelings and own emotion that will definitely give us an idea on what to do. We know ourselves better.

Happy LIFE!

Seven Foods to Keep You Young

It's very alarming that most of the people with jobs and so are the students are always having stress due to busy schedules and burdens that we sometimes think we can't solve. The sad but true thing regarding this stress is, it is making us look old!

Another point is that, "older" people always want to look young yet they don't exercise, do and eat things that is good in order for them to keep young. There are also cases that adults use ant-aging cream to conceal their true age. Although some these products works, but only for some. In the end, they'll just sit down in their couch wondering why they don't look younger.

We never want to look old, right?

So I did some research regarding some simple was in order for us to maintain our pleasant skin and be able to be young all the time. Luckily, I found an article in MSN Health and Fitness, suggesting foods that we must all eat to keep as young. Now check this everyday and common foods that will make us glow and stay young.

Olive Oil

Four decades ago, researchers from the Seven Countries Study concluded that the monounsaturated fats in olive oil were largely responsible for the low rates of heart disease and cancer on the Greek island of Crete. Now we know that olive oil also contains polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may help prevent age-related diseases.

Yogurt

In the 1970s, Soviet Georgia was rumored to have more centenarians per capita than any other country. Reports at the time claimed that the secret of their long lives was yogurt, a food ubiquitous in their diets. While the age-defying powers of yogurt never have been proved directly, yogurt is rich in calcium, which helps stave off osteoporosis and contains "good bacteria" that help maintain gut health and diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness.

Fish

Thirty years ago, researchers began to study why the native Inuits of Alaska were remarkably free of heart disease. The reason, scientists now think, is the extraordinary amount of fish they consume. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms.

Chocolate

The Kuna people of the San Blas islands, off the coast of Panama, have a rate of heart disease that is nine times less than that of mainland Panamanians. The reason? The Kuna drink plenty of a beverage made with generous proportions of cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.

Nuts

Studies of Seventh-Day Adventists (a religious denomination that emphasizes healthy living and a vegetarian diet) show that those who eat nuts gain, on average, an extra two and a half years. Nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats, so they offer benefits similar to those associated with olive oil. They’re also concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals, including antioxidants.

Wine

Drinking alcohol in moderation protects against heart disease, diabetes and age-related memory loss. Any kind of alcoholic beverage seems to provide such benefits, but red wine has been the focus of much of the research. Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that likely contributes to its benefits—and, according to animal studies, may activate genes that slow cellular aging.

Blueberries

In a landmark study published in 1999, researchers at Tufts University’s Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging fed rats blueberry extract for a period of time that in "rat lives" is equivalent to 10 human years. These rats outperformed rats fed regular chow on tests of balance and coordination when they reached old age. Compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function.

Sometimes, we never realize that this ordinary foods we see in our kitchen can help us maintain our younger-looking skin and face. Of course, these foods will surely take effect with proper attitude towards life and how you live it.
Stay young!

Top 10 New Species Named

During 2007, thousands of new plant and animal species were discovered. And from this thousands, only 10 lethal and bizarre enough had garnered their way to be in the New Top Ten List released by the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) at Arizona State University. FYI, IISE is annually releasing top ten new named species discovered from the previous year!

Without further ado, open your eyes and see the freshest addition in the flora and fauna world!

Top 10:

Tecticornia bibenda

This new species made the Top 10 because of its charismatic appearance; according to press releases, it looks like the Michelin Man™. It has been also the subject of media releases on the lack of support for taxonomic work in Western Australia, a biodiversity hotspot. There is a huge backlog of new plant species awaiting description, ironically generated by environmental impact surveys for mining companies. It is one of 298 new plant species described from Western Australia in 2007.

Top 9:

Megaceras briansaltini

Rhinoceros beetles are named for the horn-like structures on their heads. According to the author, this charismatic new species has a unique form of horn that is otherwise similar only to the one on Dim, the blue rhinoceros beetle in the Disney/Pixar animated film "A Bug's Life." This makes for a rare instance of Nature imitating art.

Top 8:

Malo kingi

The new species is the second known species of the dangerous box jellyfish genus Malo, one of several genera of irukandji jellyfish. It is named after American tourist Robert King, who apparently died after being stung by the species while swimming off northern Queensland, Australia. King's death was a pivotal point in irukandji management, raising public awareness about safety.

Top 7:

Xerocomus silwoodensis

This new mushroom species was discovered on Silwood Campus, a campus of Imperial College, London, although it is also found elsewhere (two additional sites in England and one each in Spain and Italy). The discovery of a new species in one of the most intensely studied floras in the world and on the campus of a leading education center for biologists illustrates how poorly species are known.

Top 6:

Styloctenium mindorensis

This large and charismatic fruit bat species is known only from the Philippine island of Mindoro. It is only the second known species in the genus; the other species is known only from the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and nearby Togian Islands, and was originally discovered (and named after) Alfred Russell Wallace. Wallace was a colleague of Charles Darwin and coauthor of their famous paper On the Tendency of Species to form Varieties; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection. Among other important contributions, he noted the distinctive faunal break separating Asian and Australian biotas, which is now known as Wallace's Line. Ironically, the new species occurs on the west side of Wallace's Line whereas its sister species is on the east side. The new species is threatened by habitat loss and hunting. Its discovery highlights an increasing understanding of endemism on Mindoro, and the need for species exploration and conservation.

Top 5:

Oxyuranus temporalis

This is perhaps one of the most venomous known snake species. Its two closest relatives, the inland taipan (or fierce snake) and the coastal taipan, are ranked first and third most venomous snakes in the world, respectively. The discovery of the new species (known only from a single specimen) highlights how little is known of even relatively large animals in harsh, poorly collected habitats (in this case an isolated arid region of Australia). It also emphasizes the need for accurate taxonomy of venomous species for proper treatment of bites.

Top 4:

Philautus maia

This species was described from a single female museum specimen collected around 1860. It and a number of related species from Sri Lanka are almost certainly now extinct. Its discovery demonstrates the importance of museum specimens in determining baseline information on biodiversity and in documenting the natural heritage of nations. Had this specimen not been collected in the 19th century, it would possibly have never been known.

Top 3:

Desmoxytes purpurosea

Millipedes (relatives of centipedes) are highly variable in appearance and coloration, but this shocking pink stands apart. The authors suggest that its gaudy coloration and habits (it sits openly on the ground and vegetation during the day) probably indicates to would-be predators that it is not edible (spiny and toxic).

Top 2:

Gryposaurus monumentensis

This new dinosaur species was discovered by a team from Alf Museum, the only nationally-accredited paleontology museum on a high school campus. It is one of the most robust duck-billed dinosaurs ever found, and probably the largest dinosaur in the 75 million-year-old Kaiparowits Formation fossil ecosystem.

Top 1:

Electrolux addisoni

This new genus and species is the largest known member of the electric ray family Narkidae, and made the Top 10 because of its unusual and amusing generic name. According to the authors: "The name alludes to the well-developed electrogenic properties of this ray (collectors and photographers have experienced the shocking personality of this bold, active and brightly patterned electric ray first-hand), the discovery of which sheds light (Latin, lux) on the rich and poorly known fish diversity of the Western Indian Ocean. And the vigorous sucking action displayed on the videotape of the feeding ray that was taken by Stephania and Peter Lamberti may rival a well-known electrical device used to suck the detritus from carpets, furniture, and other dust-gathering surfaces in modern homes."

See how amazing Earth is? Well, let's just say that Earth is a home for us, Human Beings and them, mmhh..AMAZING BEINGS and we'll keep this planet spinning!
